Key Differences Between Hajj and Umrah

personSuper Admincalendar_today2024-04-10
While both Hajj and Umrah involve the sacred territory of Makkah and specific rituals, they differ in ruling and execution. **Islamic Ruling** Hajj is obligatory (Fard) once in a lifetime for those who can afford it, occurring only in specific Islamic dates (Dhu al-Hijjah 8th-12th). Umrah is a Sunnah and can be performed at any time of the year. **Rituals** Hajj includes specific rites: staying in Mina, standing at Arafat (Wuquf), spending night in Muzdalifah, and stoning the Jamarat. Umrah is simpler: Ihram, Tawaf, Sa'ee, and shaving/trimming hair. **Duration** Hajj takes 5-6 days for the main rituals, while Umrah can be completed in 2-3 hours. **Reward** Both are immensely rewarding, but Hajj is a complete spiritual transformation with the promise of Paradise for an accepted Hajj (Hajj Mabrur).
